Migrating Reports

As part of the migration series, now we come to the migration of the reports. The report development studio in Hyperion Reporting & Analysis Suite isn’t robust or comprehensive enough to handle the migration (export/import) of reports. I am focusing my post to the Hyperion Financial Reporting Studio and it doesn’t even support saving the report to a local drive. To manage the reports, the web-based Workspace is used.

So here comes the list of steps to export and then to import the reports.

  1. Log in to workspace using the workspace URL (for e.g. http://<server name/IP>:19000/workspace/index.jsp)
  2. Provide the relevant login credentials
  3. Click on Navigate->Explore (the folder hierarchy will now be loaded)
  4. Navigate to the folder you want to export
  5. Click on File->Export
  6. Select Financial Report(s) and/or sub-folder(s) that you need to export (Note that the complete hierarchy of the subfolders is automatically included)
  7. Click on OK
  8. A prompt will ask you to open or save a Reports.zip file
  9. Click on Save and save to a convenient location

This completes the export part of the process. Now let’s move on to the import process.

  1. Log in to workspace using the workspace URL (for e.g. http://<server name/IP>:19000/workspace/index.jsp)
  2. Provide the relevant login credentials
  3. Click on Navigate->Explore (the folder hierarchy will now be loaded)
  4. Click on File->Import->Financial Reports
  5. Click on browse in the new dialog. Select the Reports.zip file that you previously saved in the export procedure.
  6. Click on Import
  7. If the import process detects that the connection required by the reports is missing, it will prompt you to select a different connection that you have already defined in your system or allow you to create a new connection.

This concludes the import process. This process builds the complete hierarchy that you exported from the root level down to the lowest level. This will also update any existing reports and update them with the uploaded version.
