The tech world is abuzz with the announcement that Oracle has made a bid to acquire Sun Microsystems for USD 7.4 billion. This news comes after negotiations broke down between IBM and Sun Microsystems.
There has been a lot of speculation around the tech blogs world about what Oracle stands to gain. The first thing that popped into my mind was the fact that they get a very reliable and industry-proven enterprise OS (Sun Solaris) and Java!
The other thing that popped into my mind was the fact that Oracle could possibly offer a one vendor minimal headache solution to customers the worldover. You buy an Oracle product (you get shipped a Sun server with the product preinstalled and ready to go). That could definitely provide a huge savings in time to deploy and would be very beneficial to the customers, Oracle and Oracle’s Business Partners.
I’ll think about this news some more and maybe post some more thoughts and ideas.
